BustBuddies™ for Post Operative Breast Surgery Recovery

The packs provide generous coverage, a non-toxic thermal gel, and a soft, medical fabric-covered side for maximum comfort. BustBuddies can be used alone or can be placed easily into surgical bras prescribed to patients recovering from breast surgery.

BustBuddies are an effective anti-inflammatory treatment for post-operative breast surgery patients. After breast surgery, most patients experience swelling above and below the muscle. Bruising and tenderness can also be expected. Swelling typically fades after 12 weeks and frequently comes back during a woman’s first menstruation following surgery.

To treat swelling and bruising, the majority of physicians recommend applying warm or cool compresses to the breast for specified amounts of time. With BustBuddies, breast surgery patients can now benefit from an immediate, comfortable and convenient warm/cool treatment through a uniquely designed, conforming thermal breast gel pack.

For faster recovery, it is recommended that patients immediately apply a cold compress to the swollen areas of the breasts. Cold treatment reduces swelling by constricting the capillary blood vessels and slowing down the flow of blood and other fluids directed to the wound area. Using BustBuddies as cold compresses can also:

  • reduce the sensation of pain by delivering an anesthetic effect on the nerves,
  • help prevent hematoma (a localized swelling filled with blood resulting from a break in a blood vessel) formation; and
  • help to more quickly restore strength and mobility.

BustBuddies maintain their soft consistency and comfortable cool temperature even when frozen. This delivers a perfect solution as frozen temperatures are discouraged by medical experts due to the heightened sensitivity of the skin after surgery. BustBuddies can easily be stored in the freezer or refrigerator and conveniently pulled out to be used when needed. Their flexible compartment like design ensures that the cool or warm temperatures are concentrated and applied where most needed.

Using BustBuddies as a warm treatment pack can also be beneficial in reducing post-operative bruising by helping to break down discolorations. Directions for Using BustBuddies

Cool Treatment - To cool, place breast packs flat in refrigerator until they reach desired coolness (approximately 30-60 minutes). Before applying, gently massage the pack for maximum comfort. Apply to breast when desired temperature is reached. It is recommended to apply the compress for 15-20 minutes (or as directed by your doctor), and then off the affected area for 40-45 minutes (or as directed by your doctor). Return BustBuddies to the refrigerator or freezer and reapply as needed especially during the first 72 hours after surgery or as directed by your physician.

Warm Treatment - To warm, place breast pack in microwave for up to 20 seconds. Before applying, check temperature by carefully touching packs. Gently massage packs to distribute heat evenly. (Please use extreme caution when using a microwave as times and strengths may vary.) Apply the white fabric-covered side of the pack to the breast for maximum comfort. Packs may also be heated by immersing them in hot (not boiling) water for 5-10 minutes. Remove carefully and dry. Apply to breast for 15-20 minutes when desired temperature is reached. Leave BustBuddies off of the affected area for 40-45 minutes before reapplying.

Cleaning Instructions
BustBuddies are hand washable and can be cleaned with a mild soap and warm water. Dry before using. BustBuddies may also be cleaned by placing them in the top rack of the dishwasher and washed on a gentle cycle.
